Welcome to the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology web page at IUPUI. We are pleased to be part of a growing, vibrant, and modern university located only a few blocks from downtown Indianapolis. Our goals are to provide a stimulating and productive environment for the education of future scientists and to advance understanding of chemical science through cutting-edge research.

The department offers degree programs extending from the two-year Associate’s degree to the Doctor of Philosophy. These programs are built upon a tradition of close student-faculty interactions that are tailored to individual needs. Undergraduate chemistry majors experience hands-on work in well-equipped laboratories with many taking the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research. Graduate students find a close mentoring relationship with faculty and good interaction with fellow students.

These are exciting times in chemistry. By virtue of its molecular content, chemistry lies at the core of fast moving developments in the life, health, and materials sciences. Opportunities for interdisciplinary work abound with the presence of the Indiana University School of Medicine, the Indiana Genomics Initiative (INGEN), and the Biomolecular Engineering program on campus. Emerging focus areas of interdisciplinary study include biomaterials, molecular imaging, drug development and analysis, and proteomics. These interactions are enhanced by the presence in Indianapolis of major life-sciences corporations such as Eli Lilly, DowAgro Sciences and Roche, which employ many IUPUI graduates.
