Chemistry & Chemical Biology (C&CB) is a thriving department located in bustling downtown Indianapolis.  It offers a unique program of graduate study at the interface of chemistry, biology, and medicine.  As a scholar in C&CB, you will have the opportunity to work with a vibrant group of faculty who are performing research in areas such as chemical biology, enzymology and drug discovery, the development and application of advanced bio analytical methods, computational and experimental biophysics, bioinorganic, organic and bioorganic chemistry, and forensic science.  Even with these diverse research opportunities, C&CB remains a relatively small department (19 faculty members), which allows students to develop close working relationships with faculty and their peers.  Our department strives to maintain a collegial environment.  Through collaborative interactions with faculty just across the street in the IU School of Medicine, our students also work on issues of medical signficance.  They are committed to making an impact in the lives of the people in Indianapolis and the wider Indiana community.

As the largest undergraduate degree-granting institution in Indianapolis, IUPUI ranked seventh in the nation in 2014 in the US News & World Report's list of "Up-and-Coming" National Universities.  The urban location of IUPUI provides unique opportunities given the proximity of many life sciences and health-related institutions, including five hospitals and the internationally renowned Indiana University Medical and Dental schools.  In common with other schools on the IUPUI campus, C&CB attracts a diverse pool of students from more than 100 countries.  Students also benefit from Indianapolis being the 13th largest US city and the home of prestigious companies such as Eli Lilly, Roche Diagnostics, and Dow AgroSciences.  This diversity was recently recognized by a Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need award to C&CB, which specifically provides scholarship funding for graduate research by female and underrepresented minority students.

I invite you to take a look around our website to obtain additional information about our rapidly growing department, to complete an application for graduate study, and to schedule your visit.
