C&CB Receives $516,000 NSF Grant to Purchase New 500 MHz NMR
INDIANAPOLIS - 11.10.2006
The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology, in collaboration with faculty from Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Biomedical Engineering, has received a half-million dollar NSF grant to purchase a state-of-the-art Bruker Avance II 500-MHz NMR spectrometer. The spectrometer's capabilities include the analysis of organic and inorganic compounds, characterization of solid-state samples with magic-angle spinning, and structure determinations of biomolecules, such as soluble proteins and nucleic acids. Additionally, the system will be equipped with a specialized 1.7-mm probe useful for natural product or valuable protein samples and an advanced 60-sample sample changer, allowing both remote data acquisition and data processing. The spectrometer is expected to be operational by March 2007. Be sure to check back for updates!
