Department offers new ACS-Certified BS in Chemistry degree with option in Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology is pleased to announce that it now offers a certified BS Chemistry degree option in Biochemistry. This new degree offering, like the traditional BS degree in Chemistry also offered by the Department, is accredited by the American Chemical Society and emphasizes training in chemical and molecular processes as they relate to biological and medical phenomena. Recognizing the central role of chemistry in life and health sciences, a focus area of the IUPUI campus and the economy of surrounding central Indiana, the Department's new degree offering will allow students from the IUPUI campus to be competitive in today's job market, which is increasingly focused on understanding biology at the molecular level in such areas as pharmaceutical design and imaging, and also to prepare for graduate and professional careers in medicine and other health-related disciplines. The new BS degree option in Biochemistry follows in the wake of the official Department name change last year from "Department of Chemistry" to the "Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology", further underscoring the Department's focus on chemistry as it relates to biological processes.
